Precision Planting Goes Global from a Small Chinese Town

In the quiet industrial zone of Dianbu Town, Laixi City, a remarkable transformation is underway. Qingdao Dashun Jingfeng Maquinaria Agrícola S.L. has evolved from a local workshop into an exporter serving farmers across four continents, all while staying true to its roots in solving everyday farming challenges.

En company’s origin story traces back to 2009, when founder Zheng Jiangshan, then 25, operated a small machinery shop. Local carrot growers faced a persistent problem: manual seeding consumed excessive labor and wasted seeds. Zheng envisioned a machine that could plant with precision while saving time and money.

His initial attempt at building a seeder ended in frustration. The prototype failed because carrot seeds have tiny hairs that prevent suction devices from gripping them properly. The breakthrough came when Zheng combined two innovations: a friend’s seed coating technology that smoothed the rough seeds, and the air-suction principle he observed while watching his wife use a vacuum cleaner. By 2014, he had refined the concept enough to establish his company.

Today, Dashun Jingfeng’s air-suction seeders represent a leap forward in precision agriculture. Independent testing by Qingdao Agricultural University shows the machines achieve single-seed rates above 92% with missed seeding below 3%. For farmers, this means fewer gaps in the field and dramatically reduced labor costs for thinning seedlings later in the growing season.

The company’s public demonstrations have proven decisive in building customer confidence. A November 2023 field event in Laixi showcased the company’s flagship integrated seeder, which combines rotary tillage, ridging, drip irrigation, fertilization, and seeding in a single pass. The demonstration attracted farmers from across the region who witnessed firsthand how the machine replaced dozens of workers with a single operator. A subsequent demonstration in Yantai at a national vegetable industry conference earned praise from experts who recognized the technology’s potential to modernize vegetable production across China.

International markets have taken notice. Dashun Jingfeng now exports to Canada, Russia, the United States, Australia, and Senegal. The company produces over 1,000 machines annually, with the majority serving farms outside Shandong Province. Export customers cite the combination of advanced features and competitive pricing as key factors in their purchasing decisions.

Academic collaboration has played an important role in refining the technology. In late 2024, Qingdao Agricultural University officials visited the company to assess the partnership with Professor Wang Fangyan’s engineering team. The collaboration has helped advance small-seed vegetable seeding technology, a niche that requires specialized expertise.

Looking forward, Dashun Jingfeng is expanding beyond seeding equipment. Zheng Jiangshan announced plans to deliver carrot harvesters to farmers by the end of the year, marking the company’s entry into harvesting machinery. For Zheng, the vision is clear: provide farmers with the tools to mechanize their entire production cycle, from planting to harvest.

What began as a local problem-solver in a small shop has grown into a business with global reach. The company’s journey reflects a broader trend in Chinese manufacturing—innovative, practical solutions developed close to the customer that can compete effectively in international markets. For farmers in Qingdao and beyond, the impact is measurable: lower costs, higher precision, and a future where back-breaking manual planting becomes a memory.
